Sandstone Press

Sandstone Press: July 2012 Newsletter

One of Canada’s greatest novelists writing at the top of his game’ Esi Edugyan.

David Adams Richards - Incidents In The Lie Of Marcus PaulDon’t just take the word of Man Booker/Orange short-listed (and much more) Esi Edugyan, Canada’s David Adams Richards is now published in Britain and Ireland by Sandstone Press. His great new novel 'Incidents In The Life Of Marcus Paul' is this month available in paperback and, soon, ebook form. Searing, brilliant, tension filled, Incidents in the Life of Markus Paul is about truth, lies and justice in northwest Canada. Read it once and you won’t forget it.

'Remote country and endless days of primo walking’ Ron Strickland

Chris Townsend - Grizzly Bears and Razor ClamsRon Strickland is the founder of the Pacific Northwest Trail which runs 1200 miles from the Rocky Mountains to Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean. Before the Trail was properly open Chris Townsend, Britain’s ‘primo’ walker, author, and regular contributor to Great Outdoors Magazine, took rucksack, tent and camera along its whole length. The result is his most photographic book yet. It is also one of Sandstone’s most beautifully designed productions. By the fireside or on the trail it will put ideas in your head and, likely, miles under your feet.

Three great women’s books for summer reading

Lynne Alexander - The SisterAlready in 2012 Sandstone Press has published three great novels by women and what a trio they make. 'The Sister' by Lynne Alexander is this fine American author’s take on the life of Alice James. 'Ninepins' by Rosy Thornton, now heading for its first reprint, is a tale of mothers and troubled daughters on the brilliantly evoked Cambridgeshire Fens. Alison Fell’s 'the element –inth in Greek' mingles murder and biography, modern romance and prehistoric marriage ritual and is, as you would expect from Alison, beautifully written. Look no further for variety, depth, and entertainment value.

North American distribution

Dufour EditionsWe are delighted to inform our readers, but especially readers and booksellers in North America, that Sandstone Press books are now being distributed by the highly regarded Dufour Editions in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Their managing director Christopher May sought out our own Robert Davidson at the London Book Fair and, since then, neither has let the grass grow under his feet. Sandstone has been highly impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of Chris and his team and looks forward to a strengthening of our ties with them and, through them, with American readers.
